My really nice neighbour and her husband invited me to lunch today. Since her husband wanted a glass of Chardonnay, I decided to have a glass and join him.
Lunch was home cooked, she made a chicken “roterof” which is a simple but tasty German dish where the chicken is baked in a big clay pot with some light herbs, potato, leek and carrots. I had a leg and lots of the vegetables. She also made a very nice light stir fried all-vegetable aubergine, courgette tomato stew ( I had 2 servings).
Then dessert, I brought a bunch of washed green sugarone grapes and she added dark purple grapes and some pomelo and a cheese platter. We tried these cookies that her friend gave her called “Dorset Knobs” they were kind of small-ish and round, the texture reminds me of this bread-biscuit that we used to eat in school. A bit crunchy and very difficult to eat in polite company… She gave it to her husband half way. She also offered me a “cherry blossom mochi”. Another friend had bought her a box of 4 to try. The texture was really nice, soft and bouncy but not too chewy. She thought it was sour but I didn’t think so.
I bought them some Magnum ice creams- the new flavor called Choco cuppacino, which made her husband very happy (I didn’t have any). And 3 glasses of water and 2 cups of Japanese green tea.
